Cocktails: different types. Juice, soda, cream, and alcoholic beverage of any kind are common components that are used to make perfect cocktail. This drink usually includes ice and flavoring ingredients as well. Plastic sticks or straws and fresh fruit are used to decorate the drink. Any cocktail should consist of three or more different ingredients otherwise it’s not a cocktail. Exact origin of the drink is unsolved mystery. However its roots stretch back to the 19th century. Term “cocktail” was mentioned first in American magazine in 1806. Alcohol-free. Non-alcoholic cocktail is called mocktail and sometimes punch. Word “mock” means mimic, imitate or copy. So mocktail imitates and looks like cocktail but it’s always alcohol-free. Fruit juices, iced tea, herbs, nectar, cream, and soft drinks are used to make mocktails. Word “virgin” is often added to the front of mocktail name. For example Virgin Pina Colada doesn’t include rum but consists of the same ingredients as original drink. Mocktails are great to serve party guests who prefer non-alcoholic drinks. These alcohol-free beverages are good choice for pregnant women, children, recovering alcoholics, and those who don’t like taste of alcohol and still want to enjoy fanciful cocktail. Beer cocktails. They are also called beertails or shandies. This beer-based beverage may contain various soft drinks such as lemonade, fresh juices (lemon, orange, apple), sparkling water, and ginger ale. Beer cocktails may be light and sweet as well as heavy and rich. Balanced cocktail that can stand on its own is often basic element for the most of beertails. Perfect beertail should include beer that either complements cocktail flavors or contrasts with them. Weissen Sour, Michelada, and Belgian Sour are the most famous beertails in America. Weissen Sour is sunshine-bright cocktail that is made of white beer, bourbon, lemon juice, orange marmalade, and small piece of lemon for garnishing. Michelada is beer-based cocktail that includes lime juice, hot sauce, spices, and sometimes tomato juice. This drink is served over ice in glass with salted rim. Belgian Sour includes mix of ale, bourbon, orange, lemon, and ginger syrup. Rum Cocktails. Rum is sweet liquor that is popular basic element for mixed drinks. It tastes good with a large number of different ingredients. Amber color of rum usually darken cocktail. The most popular rum cocktails are Mojito and Pina Colada. Mojito is good refreshing drink because of cooling mint. The drink consists of five ingredients such as white rum, fresh-squeezed lime juice, club soda, sugar, and muddled mint leaves. Ice cubes or crushed ice is also added to Mojito. This Cuban rum cocktail is great to drink on a hot summer day. Pina Colada is fantastic summertime cocktail that includes pineapple juice, rich coconut cream, and a bit of white rum. Mixture of these three ingredients is stirred in crushed ice and then the drink is poured into chilled glass. This tropical cocktail is garnished with a slice of pineapple and umbrella. Vodka, gin, whisky, wine, and tequila are also popular alcoholic ingredients for making cocktails.
